Portland needs to publicize more jazz events more often. It seems that the media (local magazines, newspapers, non-jazz radio stations), play along with selling, as Saphu rightly puts it &quot;surrendering artistic control...in the name of selling a quota of commercially palatable products&quot;. 35 years ago jazz drummer Elvin Jones said; &quot;You can put a picture of garbage on an album cover, and if you know how to sell, it can sell.&quot; Inotherwords, it&#039;s not what we sell, but rather what we choose to sell. With so much jazz that could be sold in Portland, it&#039;s to bad that there are people out there that don&#039;t realize this.
